Biggles in India was the third in the series of Biggles comic strips in the Flemish/Dutch language by the Belgian company "Studio Vandersteen". The comic strip probably first appeared in the daily newspaper De Standaard in 1965 and was later collected into an album released on 1 Feb 1966.

Biggles in India was probably written and drawn by Karel Verschuere although only Vandersteen is credited and never the individual artists.

This story is notable in being the first in the Vandersteen series to have a totally original plotline which is not based or inspired by a Johns novel. You look in vain for any similarity to Biggles Goes Home or Biggles in the Terai.

It is also interesting for the many real places which Biggles visits.

Synopsis[]

Biggles is, as in the rest of the Vandersteen series, with the International Air Police and based in Hong Kong. A wealthy Chinese merchant seeks his help to search for and rescue his brother from a remote village in India where he has set up a clinic. At first Biggles is unable to accede as this is a private matter. But then unknown assailants begin to stalk him and even attack a boy who had been seen with him. For Biggles, this makes it a police business.

In this story, Biggles acts alone. There is no sign of Algy or Ginger even in his Hong Kong office.
