In Mischief by Moonlight, Colonel Rushby was a victim of a theft involving a valuable collection of stamps worth five thousand pounds. Together with the stamps, he had also lost the family silver and jewels, all lifted from his home at Nutsford Grange. Biggles found an early Australian stamp with a catalogue price of seven hundred pounds from his collection on the ground at Five Elms Farm, Shingleton, Suffolk. By that time, however, the rest of the haul had probably been transported abroad by a helicopter in a operation operated by the well-knwon professional "fence" Charlie.
Colonel Rushby did not appear in person in the story. Gaskin spoke to him on the phone fromn Biggles' office to confirm if the Australian stamp was his.
