In Biggles Hunts Big Game, Doctor Dorov was a member and master of the international counterfeiting gang led by Kravas. Dorov maintained a cover as a guest of the hunting lodge maintained by the gang at Kudinga but in reality he was one of the key brains of the gang and served as its master forger.
Ginger and Bertie first met Dorov when they arrived at Kudinga, having signed up for the Hunter's Tour offered by Stellar Skyways, an airline operated by the gang. There at the lodge they met Dorov who was living up his cover as a lodge guest. Ginger saw him as a frail, eccentric, grey-bearded old man. He always wore dark sun glasses, shuffled about in a pair of old slippers, dressed shabbily and was always puffing at an enormous meerschaum pipe. According to the description given to Ginger by the waiters, Dorov was a long-term guest or "permanency". Thought to be a Czech, he had been at Kudinga for more than a year and was passionate about his hobby of ornithology. He had a private sitting room where he kept his private collection of African birds. He attended to the preservation of birds himself, often taking copious notes and sending specimens home. Ginger thought Dorov looked familiar but couldn't identify him.
It was only later that Dorov's true identity was discovered. Dorov was originally a Czech banker of some repute. However he had followed Hitler and became the head of the Nazi forgery and counterfeit department during the war. He had often ill-treated prisoners who were draughtsmen and engravers who had been sent to him but who refused to work for him. Stephan and George, two mechanics at the counterfeit works at Kudinga were wartime associates of Dorov.
As a result of his wartime activities, Dorov was wanted by the Allied authorities. He was fatally wounded while resisting arrest when the Egyptian police raided Kudinga. Before he died, he boasted that, as he was on the list of Nazi war criminals, he had cheated the Allies after all.
