In The Case of the Haunted Island, the murderer Captain Nathaniel Clark sold his schooner the Mahina and then sailed for England as a passenger on board the freighter Esperence which departed Papeete for Southampton, a voyage of 40 days. Biggles was able to return home before the Esperence so that the police was waiting to arrest Clark upon his arrival.
