The first operational British jet fighter, the Meteor entered service in July 1944. The Meteor never appeared in any of the canonical W. E. Johns works and only shows up in the derivative work Biggles Joins a Revolution. Here, the Meteors were used by the San Felipe government forces. Biggles and co. were on the other side, flying old Spitfires for some anti-government rebels. The Meteors, of course, outperformed the Spitfires but Biggles told the others, they had the upper hand. They had greater experience in air combat and the Spitfires were more manoevrable. The dogfight ended with the Meteors being shot down.
