In The Case of the Brilliant Pupil, Langley was a instructor at the Home Counties Flying Club near Sudley. He was the flying instructor of Lancelot Seymour. At the time of Biggles' investigation into the activities of Seymour, Langley had been working at the club for five years and had a fine record, according to the club secretary Tommy Clewson. Langley thought highly of his pupil Lancelot Seymour's flying abilites and was on hand to give him a few words of advice just before he took off on his final solo night flight test.
