In Biggles Delivers the Goods, the Lochavon Castle was a British armed merchantman. Outbound from Perth for Calcutta, it was ordered to rendezvous with the Sumatran and take over its cargo of rubber and then proceed direct to England with it. This left Li Chi free to return to Elephant Island for a second load. Earlier, Tug Carrington had seen the two ships at a mid-ocean rendezvous and thought that the Sumatran had been captured by a Japanese ship. Accustomed to setbacks and bad news, Biggles expected nothing else and was therefore pleasantly surprised to meet Li Chi when he returned for a second load of rubber.
