In Biggles in Australia, the MacLaren Hills was a range of high ground about 40 miles south of Broome where gold prospector Joe Hopkins had a prospecting camp. Biggles, together with Sergeant Bill Gilson, stopped by at the MacLaren Hills on their way to Tarracooma. They found Hopkins' "wurlie" or bough shelter near a water hole ("soak") but Hopkins had been murdered, clubbed and speared to death, it seemed, by Australian aborigines. His rifle and pouch of gold dust had been taken.

The MacLaren Hills is a fictional location.
