Major Sharp was the C.O. of 231 Squadron flying Sopwith Camels. In J-9982, Biggles called on him at his squadron to ask if he had an aircraft by that serial number. On learning that J-9982 had been captured and was being flown by an enemy pilot, he agreed to Biggles' scheme to hunt it down by painting the prop-bosses, centre-sections and fins of all his Camels blue. Anyone not thus painted would be considered the enemy aircraft.
Shortly after, a Major Sharp shows up as the C.O. of 287 Squadron, of which Wilks was a flight commander. Sharp makes this appearance in Spads and Spandaus when he decides to personally lead his squadron of S.E.5s to join the Sopwith Camels of 266 Squadon in a large formation to counter Richthofen's JG1. He appears again in The Professor where he comes to 266 Sqn to demand which Camel pilot had dropped 8 Cooper bombs over 187's airfield.
The Sharp from 231 and the Sharp from 287 Sqn could be the same or a different person.
