In Biggles Gets His Men, Ming was the Mongolian overseer and chief guard employed by Prince Ling Soo, the Manchurian warlord who ran a secret scientific research base in Manchuria where abducted British scientists were forced to work developing secret weapons.

One of Ming's duties was to secure native Orochons and Koreans from the surrounding countryside to be used as slaves in the research base. Ming was described as enormous in stature and cross-eyed. He was often seen with a whip which he used to beat the slaves.

Ming is illustrated on the cover of the first edition where he is shown standing behind Biggles brandishing a revolver and a whip, ready to execute him on the command of his master. This was a scene described in Chapter XIV of the book. Ming's downfall would come soon after. Bertie and Colonel Alexis Petroffsky were searching the camp for Biggles and came across him in the headquaters building being interrogated in a room by Prince Ling Soo, von Stalhein and Ming, among others. Petroffsky, without waiting for further instructions, fired his rifle and killed Ling Soo. This created a commotion which resulted in everyone in the room scrambling to escape through the window. Ming, knocked Bertie over when he clambered over the window. He was raising his gun to shoot Bertie when Petroffsky struck him on the head with his rifle, delivering a blow which sent him flat on the ground. It is not known if Ming survived the blow.
