In Biggles Works It Out, Paul Legendre was an Air France pilot who told Marcel Brissac about a strange aircraft he had encountered. While flying a scheduled service from Gao (in the French Sudan, now Mali) to Algiers, he had seen a Douglas DC-3 with a tricycle undercarriage with French registration letters flying into the Sahara. When he related this story at the Aero Club de France, Paul was corrected by fellow Air France pilot Georges Pinsard who said he had met a similar aircraft but it carried the CS registration prefix of Portugal, not the F prefix for French aircraft.
