In Biggles on Mystery Island, Pepe was a colonist who joined 'King' Hara's expedition to create a self-sustaining colony on the island of Oratovoa in the South Seas. Originally an islander of mixed-race from Tahiti, Pepe decided he had had enough of life in Hara's colony and attempted to run away and was shot dead by Swenson, one of Hara's deputies.
