In The Case of the Secret Inquisitors, Pierre Lefebre was a French-Canadian who was a confidential adviser to the British government on the Marshall Plan. At the time of the story, he had just completed a secret mission to the United States and had gone on leave to a village in Cornwall for a rest. His body was subsequently discovered washed up at the foot of a cliff with injuries consistent with having been dropped from an aircraft. At the time of his death, he was in possession of secret information which would have been of great importance to a hostile power.
