In The Case of the Black Sheep, the Sirocco was a tramp steamer of Panamanian registration which made about four trips a year between America and Liverpool, entering by the northern route which took it near the Scottish Hebrides. Off the Hebrides, one of the crewmen would drop a parcel of nylons overboard which was then picked up by wool farmer Flight Lieutenant R. Q. Paullson and then delivered to the wool merchant Louis Vanberger hidden in a bale of wool.
